Handcarved and handprinted original linocut prints. I use oil based ink and specialist printing paper such as Japanese Hosho, Nepalese Lokta. I also use thicker paper such as Fabriano and Somerset. Some prints I hand burnish using a beautiful glass baren, or use an antique Albion printing press at the Northern Print studio in Newcastle. Please note that as linocuts are printed individually by hand, they will be slight variations from print to print.

Luna

Hares have long been associated with the moon. Ancient Egyptians linked the hare to the waxing and waning of the moon’s cycle. The Moon Hare or Moon Rabbit is a mythical figure in Asian and Native American folklore. Moon gazing hare symbols can be found from Ancient times. The Celts and Pagans associate them with rebirth, fertility, new beginnings and growth. Luna is the Latin word for moon and is the ancient Roman moon goddess. Luna is a variable edition, but is available online in Prussian blue. Mount size is 28cm x 30cm and there is the option to buy framed.

Selene

Selene is the Ancient Greek moon goddess. Both Luna and Selene are regarded as the personification of the moon itself. Printed in prussian blue on Japanese Hosho paper, this original print is ready mounted approx 28cm x 30cm. Option to buy ready framed (matches with Luna)

The Hedge Springer

A hedge springer is an olde English name for a hare. This linocut is handprinted in Prussian Blue ink onto Nepalese Lokta paper. It will come mounted and backed, ready to frame in a standard 16” x 20” frame. Also available in Sage green ink on Somerset paper. Please choose colour option when ordering. There is also the option to purchase ready framed in an oak coloured frame.

Nocturne

Original linocut print of a running hare under the moon and stars. Hares have long been associated with the moon in many cultures. Nocturne was hand carved onto traditional linoleum, then hand printed onto Japanese Shoji paper, this limited edition comes mounted, ready to be fit into a standard 14” x 11” frame. There is also an option to purchase this framed.

Oestre

Oestre/Ostara is the goddess of Spring. There have been many differing stories of Oestre through the centuries. The story behind this linocut is thought to be from the 1800’s. Oestre was late in bringing Spring to the land and found a freezing bird, unable to fly. She turned the helpless bird into a hare, so she could run. Once a year the hare lays colourful eggs on Oestre/Ostara’s festal, so the Easter bunny is actually a hare! The constellation in the linocut is “Lepus”, the hare that can be found at the feet of the hunter “Orion”. Printed in Prussian blue ink, the eggs are coloured by pencil. Printed on Nepalese Lokta paper, this print measures 30cm x 40cm annd will be delivered rolled in a tube. Option to buy ready framed in an oak coloured polcore frame (40cm x 50cm aperture).

Trinity

Three hares interlocked in a circle, each ear shared by two hares. This symbol is found in sites across the ages, and across the world. The oldest examples are found in caves in China, dating from 6th/7th century. It appears in sacred sites across Europe, Middle and Far East. It is associated with Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, Christianity, the Celts, and Paganism. It is also a symbol of thanks from tin miners for rich hauls, and known as “Tinner’s rabbits”. This two colour linocut print is a limited edition of 25, handprinted onto beautiful Thai Mulberry paper. In the photograph I have mounted it in a 16” x 16” aperture mount, and framed in a 20” x 20” frame. This linocut has the option to purchase as print only, delivered rolled in a tube, or mounted and framed. As with any linocut print, these are individually hand printed and can therefore have slight variations from print to print.

Celtic Hare

Hares were sacred to Celts. They were treated with respect and never eaten. They were thought to be connected to the Otherworld, and associated with rebirth, fertility and good fortune. Celtic Hare is a variable edition, black ink printed onto natural lokta paper. The natural shade of the paper can vary slightly. This print will be mounted in black, ready to frame in a standard 12” x 12” frame.

Celtic Hare II

Another hare in a Celtic design, made for my Lepus exhibition. This is handprinted onto Nepalese Lokta paper and will be ready mounted in black, to fit a standard 12” x 12” frame.

Witch Hare

Hares are steeped in superstition and folklore, much of which revolves around witches. This linocut features the poem “The Hare” by Walter de la Mare. As linocut is a form of relief printmaking the printed image is the reverse of what you carve. Therefore all the writing in this print was hand carved backwards. Printed onto Fabriano paper, this print comes ready mounted to fit into a 12” x 12” frame

Winter Hare - Original Linocut Print

I am slightly obsessed with hares, such mystical creatures. “Winter Hare” is a linocut handprinted onto Snowdon paper and mounted. Will fit into a standard A3 frame (approx 30cm x 42cm)

I am lucky to live where Curlews nest in the summer, and I love watching and listening to them. This linocut print is handprinted onto beautiful, handmade natural Lokta Khadi paper using black oil based ink. *Print only, unframed and unmounted.

The Black Dog - Limited edition linocut print

This original linocut print is a variable, limited edition of 50, each will be numbered and signed. (Variable, as was printed onto various types of specialist relief printing papers.) Each printed will be mounted in black, ready to frame in a standard 30cm x 30cm frame.

Old Brock - Original linocut print

Original linocut print of a badger in the moonlight. In our last home we had badgers visit our garden every night, I used to love watching them snuffling about. Individually hand printed onto Japanese Shoji paper using black oil based ink. Print size 15cm x 15cm, will be mounted ready to fit into a standard size frame.

Limited edition original linocut print of a hare lying low in a field until night falls. Individually printed by hand onto natural coloured Nepalese Lokta paper, using black oil based ink. Cat Amongst Flowers - Original Linocut Print

Lotus Flower - Original Linocut Print

Inspired by my trip to India & Nepal, this lotus flower is printed on handmade Nepalese paper. The Lotus flower has existed for millions of years, surviving the Ice Age. It is the National flower of India (pink lotus) and is known as the flower of life. It is sacred in many cultures. It represents spiritual enlightenment, birth, growth & purity. Different colours have different meanings, this is printed red which represents compassion, love, generosity. Lokta paper has been handmade in Nepal for centuries. It is made from the bark of the Daphne Papyrus bush which only grows at altitude in the Himalayas. It is fully sustainable as the roots are unharmed and so continually regenerates. No acid or chemical are used to colour the paper, only natural dyes. PRINT only. Variable edition handprinted oil based ink on Nepalese Lokta paper, available in red.

Under Dark Skies - Original Linocut Print

I’m lucky enough to live in a designated “Dark Skies Area” and the stars and planets are amazing on a clear night. This was inspiration for this linocut of a hare with stars above. Handprinted onto Japanese Hosho paper, the image measure approx 15cm x 15cm, mounted ready to frame in a standard 30cm x 30cm frame (approx 12” x12”)
